The skinny on the Xclave

RhapNet, run by Oliver Dueck, was a site devoted to "Rhapsody and related news." Hosted by the Macintosh News Network, RhapNet delivered hungry readers news, articles, content, software reviews, screenshots, and more about Rhapsody.

In August, 1998, Mark joined the staff as news editor and a contributing editor. Sadly, RhapNet went dormant in early October, 1998. The death of RhapNet wasn't because of Apple legal or anything, but rather that Oliver did not believe that there was enough Rhapsody news and content to sustain a constantly updated site.

To clarify…the Xclave is not actually the continuation of RhapNet. Far from it. The entity you remember as RhapNet is dead. The Xclave, while holding a couple of ties to the old RhapNet team, is its own being and does not carry any of the RhapNet baggage which may have been associated with that site.

Instead, think of the Xclave as the new Cleveland Browns. Both the new Browns and the old Browns (who are actually now the Baltmore Ravens) play football, but they new and old Browns are by no means the same team or organization. Sure, there may be players who had played for the old Browns or the current Ravens, but that doesn't make them the same Browns as before.

Of course, we would also like to note for the record that we are not comparing ourselves to the Browns. They're probably gonna suck for quite some time and they know that. We don't want to ever suck! :)

We did start this site for a reason, so please read our open letter to our readers to understand our motivations and vision.
